Obituary of Maurine (Smith) Brooks

Mrs. Maurine (Smith) Brooks age 92 of Tazewell was born February 12, 1927 and went home to be with the Lord August 27, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at the Claiborne Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a life-long member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church. She loved cooking Sunday dinner for her family and any welcomed friends that stopped by. She also had a passion for patchwork quilts and enjoyed quilting them. One of her greatest passions was babysitting and caring for the many children she kept throughout the years.   

She is preceded in death by her:

Parents: Alex and Sylvia (Hargraves) Smith

Husband: C.J Brooks of 62 years

Sisters: Ruby Smith, Nellie Mae Herrell, Blanche Richardson, Rachel Groves and Mary Williams Cosby

Brothers: Thomas, Edward, Newt, Clyde, Benton, Paris and Estel Smith

Brother-in-law: Ford Thomas

Infant great grandson: Micheal Lee Ferguson

She is survived by her:

Daughter: Christeen Bunch and husband Paris

Sons: Raymond Brooks and wife Nadine

          Kenny Brooks and wife Sue

Grandchildren: Brenda and Wayne Longworth

The Family will receive friends Thursday, August 29, 2019 from 4 PM till 7 PM with funeral services to follow at 7 PM in the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charley Longworth and Pastor Eddie Overholt officiating. Music will be provided by the grandchildren and the great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be conducted Friday, August 30, 2019 at 11 AM in the Irish Memorial Gardens.
