Obituary of Elvia Barnett

Mrs. Elvia Katherine Barnett Mrs. Elvia Katherine Barnett, lovingly known to friends and family as Granny, entered Heaven?s gates on December 15, 2012, at the age of 101. Granny had an unwavering faith in God and testified every chance she got. She was the oldest living member of Wallen Ridge Baptist Church. A devoted mother and homemaker, Granny loved to sing and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Elvia was born on September 9, 1911 in Tazewell, TN to Bob Goins and Bessie Hill Goins. She was the oldest of twelve children. Elvia and Estel Barnet married on October 14, 1925 and were the parent of three children. In addition to her parents and husband, Granny was preceded in death by her son, James Barnett, her daughter, Mary Evelyn Kyle, four brothers, and four sisters. Granny is survived by her daughter, Etta ?Poodle? Barnett, three grandchildren, Mitzi Hurst (Tip) of Indianapolis, IN, Richard Barnett (Gina) of Harrogate, TN and Gary Kyle (Jacqueline) of Morristown, TN, seven great-grandchildren, William Rucker Sr. of Indianapolis, IN, Lee Ann Rucker of Indianapolis, IN, Tracy Barnett, of Tazewell, TN, Weslee Barnett of Tazewell, TN, Allison Barnett of Harrogate, TN, Isaiah Kyle of Morristown, TN, and Chloe Kyle, of Morristown, TN. Three great-great Grandchildren, D?Niya Fleming, of Indianapolis, IN, William Rucker Jr., of Indianapolis, IN and Tania Rucker of Indianapolis, IN. Two brothers, C.L. Goins of Tazewell, TN and Melvinus Goins, of Tazewell, TN, One sister, Shirley Ann Snodgrass of Tazewell, TN and a host of Nieces and Nephews, and a loving pet companion, Pickles who continuously stayed by her side. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 5PM till 7PM at the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7PM in the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Preston Thompson and the Rev. Eddie Overholt officiating. Music will be provided by The Hoop Creek Choir. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 10AM in the Irish Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 5PM till 7PM at the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home.
