Obituary of Timothy Howard Sowders

Timothy Howard Sowders, age 84, Harrogate Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in Harrogate after a long illness. He was born November 13, 1937 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, the son of the late Howard and Edith Ayers Sowders. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: William Jake Sowders, Meschal Edds, John Sowders, Betty Sowders, Joyce Nicely, Lucy Spangler, Mary Neverstich, Pattie Sowders, and Martha Mayerchek. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Harrogate, Tennessee.

He is survived by his: wife, Lois (Mullins) Sowders, Harrogate, Tennessee; daughter: Becky (David) Hadden of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Two sons: Eric Sowders, of New Tazewell, Tennessee, Aaron Sowders, of Richmond, Kentucky; Grandsons: Jordan Hadden of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Logan Sowders, of El Paso Texas, and Blake Sowders, of Richmond Kentucky. Brother: Bob (Edith) Sowders of Middlesboro, Kentucky. Sister-in-laws: Alta Sowders of Springfield Virginia, Irene (Floyd) Liford of New Tazewell, Tennessee; Eula Becket of New Tazewell, Tennessee; Joan (Oscar) Pillion of Tazewell, Tennessee. Brother-in-law: Wade Nicely of Baneberry, Tennessee, and a host of nieces, nephews, and several friends and family.

Tim received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tennessee and a master’s degree and Rank I from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky.

Tim was a retired high school teacher and football coach in both Kentucky and Tennessee schools, with his most recent in the Claiborne County High School in Tazewell, Tennessee where he worked for several years. He will be missed by his many friends and family.

The family will recieve friends Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 2 PM till 3 PM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3 PM in the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mark Watson officiating. The obituary will be read by Steve Spangler. Music will be provided by Todd Spangler pianist, Hillary Spangler and Michelle ( Mayerchak) Depriester singing.
