Obituary of O.D. Johnson

Mr. O.D. Johnson Age 86 of Tazewell was born April 3, 1935 and passed away July 30, 2021.

He was a member of Clouds Memorial Baptist Church. He worked for the Tazewell New Tazewell Fire Department for over 37 years. The Fire Department was dedicated in his name after his retirement. He graduated from Claiborne County High School in 1954 where he played basketball all four years. He was very proud of the 1954 championship. Many knew him as his nick name greasy.

He was preceded in death by:

Parents: William and Martha Johnson

Brothers: William Jr., Homer and Bill

Sisters: Bessie, Laura and Perlie

He is survived by:
Children: Sharon and husband Larry Collins, Gary and wife Shannon Johnson, Debbie and husband Chris Bishop  

Grandchildren: Sophia Johnson, Devin Collins and wife Meredith, Chad Collins and wife Iris, Kim Davis and husband Phillip “Bopper” and Daniel Runions and wife Bethany.

Great Grandchildren: Perry, Owen, Ruby, and Kelsey Collins

Riley Davis, Clay Davis, and Carter Runions

Special Friend: Bertha Matthews

Special Cousins: Roy Gray and wife Allice (Roy was more like a brother)

And a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The Family will receive friends Monday, August 2, 2021 from 5PM till 7PM with funeral services to follow at 7PM in the Claiborne ~ Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Smith and The Rev. Larry Beeler officiating. Music will be provided by David and Juanitta Honeycutt.

Pallbearers: Tazewell New Tazewell Fire Department

Grave Side Services will be conducted Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 11AM in the Wells Cemetery in Lone Mountain.
